yellow cake

***
i've been too busy lately to look closely, but i feel that my eyes are bright, can you tell?, and big, and full of tiny rain against which i can't decide whether or not to open that slender black stick of an umbrella.  i'm polluting the air with fourteen gaping yawns and thirty-one late night sighs, but even so i've got to keep these eyes open because i wouldn't for an instant miss a moment, or for a second miss a blink - but now i've missed the bus, and i walk all those blocks home happy anyways, thinking of how the night is like a layercake and how i swathe myself in it like a blue cocoon and slur my words into the threads and feathers until the world asks me What?, so i poke my face out and grin with all my teeth and laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

If only for a second, I imagined you laughing maniacally. I miss the cool light rain in Berkeley - it's been overcast and kind of muggy over here.

I really like: "thinking of how the night is like a layercake and how i swathe myself in it like a blue cocoon and slur my words into the threads and feathers"...
